Missionary Report from the GENERAL CONFERENCE MULTIMEDIA CENTER The word of the Lord says: “Now go, write it before them in a table, and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever.” Isaiah 30:8. This Bible verse, together with Habakkuk 2:2–“And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it”–inspired the Adventist pioneers to create the famous chart of 1843, with illustrations that made it easier to preach the message about the soon coming of Christ.
In our time, modern technology has advanced. Computers and Internet connections have become part of life not only in countries with a high living standard but also in Africa and Asia. Audiovisual information is the most powerful source of influence. Multimedia materials have been used by the enemy to influence the human mind in the direction of sin and transgression. But the same means can be successfully used for powerful preaching of the gospel and to direct the mind to eternal salvation and the sacrifice of Christ. With this in mind, in 2007, the General Conference Committee decided that a multimedia center should be created at the General Conference. This center should assist all the departments of the General Conference in creating audio, video, and other multimedia presentations and make them available to the unions, fields, churches, and members. Educational programs should be recorded in audio and video format and distributed to our fields and unions, so that every member of the church may obtain courses, education, and Bible instruction for free or at affordable prices.
The new General Conference website will contain audio and video recordings of worships, sermons, and educational courses. In this way, not only members but anyone who might be interested to know our message will be able to access the information. The final vision of the multimedia center is not only to provide audiovisual materials for the General Conference departments but also to develop a permanent broadcasting service so the latest news and sermons from the General Conference headquarters and from around the world may be broadcasted. In this way, isolated members and others who so desire may view the services.
At the same time, well-prepared broadcasting programs can be offered to public radio and television stations whose owners wish to contribute to the spread of the gospel. Radio programs have already been prepared and used in several countries in South America. Television channels in Germany have published programs created by our members and workers. Some radio and TV stations in the United States have expressed their willingness to publish our materials for free.
To develop our own multimedia center, we need equipment, which is no longer as expensive as it was in years past. With your donations, large or small, you may contribute to this important branch of God’s work and help create materials to spread the message of Christ and His high spiritual standard to our members and to the world. Think about the future and the thousands of young people who will enjoy spiritual, uplifting multimedia programs because of your donations.
May God bless every cheerful giver.
